BLOCK MAKER

High Output of Solid or Hollow Units

Up to 21,000 concrete blocks mea- suring 18in. x 9in. x 4in. can be produced during an 8-hour shift on the Model 411S hydraulically-operat- ed, semi-automatic block-making ma- chine, introduced by C.A.E.C. Howard Ltd., Bedford, UK.

Requiring only one operator, the machine will manufacture either hollow or solid blocks for both walls and floors with high precision. The normal pallet of timber or steel mea- sures 55in. X 201⁄2 in. to give a moulding area of 48in. X 18% in. which allows eleven 4in. blocks or five

Concrete is fed from a 31 cu. ft. hopper into the multiple mould via the feed-box assembly which contains an agitator grid and is actuated by a single hydraulic ram. This ram ad- justs automatically for moulds of dif- ferent depths. After retraction of the

feed-box the mould tamper head lowers to compact the blocks assisted by simultaneous action of twin linear vibrating beds each equipped with a 2,850 r.p.m. counter-rotating oil-bath vibrator. Hydraulic brakes fitted to each vibrator ensure that vibration stops automatically before the mould is raised.

Further information is available from the makers.

TOWER CRANE

For Site Work on System Building Projects

THE Star 34/80 crawler mounted tower crane now being produced by Ruston-Bucyrus Ltd., Lincoln, UK. is particularly suitable for use with industrialised building systems and can be moved on to construction sites when already erected.

The crane is complete in itself, be- ing permanently ballasted, self-pro- pelled and requiring no ancillary equipment to erect or dismantle it. It is independent of external power supplies and is towed on its own de- tachable road wheels.

A hydraulic system is used to erect the tower. place the outrigger jacks, hoist loads, telescope the tower and drive the crawlers. The trolley is clectrically powered and can move along the jib in both the inclined and horizontal positions. Slewing is elec- trically powered. All crane functions are controlled by means of a portable control panel carried by the operator and connected to the crane by a 45 ft. Wanderlead.

Five speeds of load hoist are avail- able from 1 ft. min. to 100 ft./min. and the crane can be fitted with either a 60 ft. or 80 ft. jib. When the jib is lifted to the fullest extent this gives maximum heights beneath the hook

of 100 ft. or 110 ft. respectively: or heights of 39 ft. or 70 ft. when the jib is horizontal.

RB distributors include: William Jacks and Co. Ltd., Hong Kong; and Harper Gilfillan (Borneo) Ltd., Ku- ching.

EXCAVATOR

Constant Digging Depth of 14 ft.

THE American-designed Wain-Roy 300 loader excavator is now being manufactured by the Owen Organisa- tion of Britain and distributed by Peter Hamilton Equipment. Ltd., Normanhurst, Matlock, Derbys. UK.

Powered by a 55 h.p. David Brown diesel engine and equipped with a six forward and two reverse speed trans- mission, the machine has a constant digging depth of 14 ft. throughout its operating arc of 185 deg.

All the excavator buckets have bolt- on teeth and range from a 12 in. (2.81 cu. ft. heaped capacity) through 18 in. and 24 in. to a 36 in. with a 5,35 cu. ft. capacity. Wrist action is 180 deg.

The excavator has a loading height of 10 ft. 4 in., and a reach from the centre line of the rear axle of 20 ft. 9 in., which gives a maximum length of excavation of 24 ft. The digging reach at 90 deg. outside the tyre is 14 ft. 4 in. Maximum undercut for- ward of the swing post is 6 ft. 8 in. and the maximum square hole depth with a 24 in, bucket is 9 ft. 9 in.

With a bucket width of 6 ft. 4 in. and an SAE rating of % cu. yd. capacity, the loading shovel has a lifting capacity to full height of 4,000 lb. Crowdback at the carry position is 40 deg.: reach at maximum lift height is 3 ft. 4 in. and the reach from the front tyre to the cuting edge at ground level is 5 ft. Bucket cycle times are quoted as a total of 5.54 secs., which includes a raise to full height, dump time and lower. Clear- ance under the bucket at a 45 deg. dump angle is 8 ft. 2 in.
