BELT SANDER

Protective Frame Prevents "Snatching

A FAILING of many portable belt sanders is their tendency to leave marks on the working surface. This problem is overcome, with the new ELU MHB.50 double-insulated 4in, portable belt sander introduced by Trend Industrial Equipment, Ltd., Î Lechmere Road, London, N.W. 2.

The MHB.50 can even be used on veneered surfaces without marking the work, this being made possible by a protective sanding frame which can be clamped to the base of the machine in a matter of seconds. It prevents the belt from “snatching" on the sanding surface, and gives the opera- for greatly improved control over the machine. It also makes possible the sanding of narrow strips such as window or door frames, the base

frame keeping the machine squarely the work without danger of tilting.

An adjustable pressure pad, con- trolled by a rotating knob. enables pressure to be altered to meet the requirements of the job in hand. The versatility of the MHB.50 is further enhanced by the fact that, with the base frame removed, it can be used for sanding rebbets. When inverted and fixed into a special stand for use as a fixed head finisher, curved work pieces can also be sanded.

The machine, which weighs 151⁄2 lb., has a built-in vacuum unit which draws most of the dust caused by sanding operations into a dust bag. The tool is powered by an 850W. motor, available in 230 or 110 volts a.c./d.c.

Ascot 815

WATER HEATER

Wall-mounted Unit Provides Complete Home Supply

THE 815 series of instantaneous balanced flue multipoint gas water heaters by Ascot Gas Water Heaters Ltd. provides hot water for kitchen sink, bathroom basin and bath, or alternatively, three basins, or two showers.

Fitted on an external wall, it is completely sealed off from the room. Air for combustion is drawn in and flows out through the one flue via a special stainless steel terminal in the wall. No visible flue equipment is required in the room.

There are two models: the 815 2, which is designed for connection to mains water supply: and the 815 3 (without a temperature selector) for low water pressure areas. Both models are contained in a white vitreous enamel outer case.

The 815 series has an output of 3.4 gallons per minute at approxima- tely 90°F, 2.25 gallons per minute at approximately 110°F, or 1.36 gallons per minute at approximately 150°F. One therm of gas will provide ap- proximately 80 gallons of water for washing-up at 150°F or seven hot baths in 7 8 minutes each at

MOISTURE METER Shows Percentage of Water In Wood and Plaster

moisture

A NEW multi - range meter designed to indicate the per- centage of moisture in wood, wall board, plaster and similar materials

has been introduced by Soiltest, Inc., Evanston, Ill., USA.

Called the LT-211 Moisture Scout, the unit is battery operated and gives immediate indication of moisture content expressed as percentage of net weight with an accuracy of ap- proximately 2 per cent of the instru- ment's full scale. Housed in a com- partmented stainless steel carrying case, the unit is equipped with a hard plastic utility probe with a set of long pins for inserting into soft wood and similar products. A set of short pins is supplied for use in harder woods and materials.

The probe is connected to the Moisture Scout and then the meter ad- justed. The probe pin is then insert- ed into the material to be tested.

There are three ranges

the meter and readings can be made dir- ectly from the dial. No indications are registered when the moisture con-

DICTATING SYSTEM

Six Dictation/Intercom Units Use Central Recording Machine

A CENTRALISED dictation system, known as the Hot-Line, can put any one of up to six people in direct con- tact with a central automatic record- ing device located on a secretary's desk. It also incorporates an inter- com for communication between the various users and the secretary. Since dictation does not go through a gen- eral audio-typing pool, the system is particularly recommended for con- fidential work.

Each Hot-Line installation consists of several dictation units, a secretarial unit and a standard Agavox dicta- tion/transcribing machine. The stand- ard dictation unit measures 61⁄2 in. wide by 3 in. high by 6 in. deep overall and incorpoates a micro- phone, a loudspeaker and four push buttons: one to make contact with the dictation machine, one to disconnect the machine, one to sound a call buz- zer on the secretary's unit, and one to operate the intercom.
