High ground clearance in raised posi- tion permits travel over rough ground.

Swing brackets help keep the shanks facing into the load without slewing the tractor. Designed for tandem and extreme stress ripping, the alloy steel tool beam can accom- modate one shank for deep ripping operations, or up to seven shanks for high production of sized material. without overripping.

Ateco equipment is sold through Caterpillar, International, Euclid and Allis-Chalmers dealers.

SIDEBOOM

100 ft. Structure for BTD-20 Tractor

AN erection sideboom of 100ft., based on the International BTD-20 tractor and giving a safe working load of 0.579 tons at 50 ft. overhang and 4.11 tons at 5 ft. overhang, has been developed by T. T. Boughton & Sons, Ltd.. Amersham Common, Bucks.. U.K.

Four removeable counter-weights. with a total weight, including rack, of 7.13 tons, are used, these being hy- draulically actuated and extended from the frame by twin 5 in. dia. double acting cylinders, working through a mechanical linkage. Hy- draulic power is supplied from crankshaft driven gear type pump.

a

The winch, which has two drums of 8 in. barrel diameter for load line and boom luffing, is driven from a rear p.t.o. through a 3⁄4 in. pitch Duplex chain and independent, twin plate friction clutch of 111⁄2 in. dia.. the output being taken by a universal shaft to a heavy duty gear box which gives two speeds for lifting and a single reverse speed. The final drive is taken by a 11⁄2 in. pitch Simplex chain to the winch drum clutches and the boom line drum is fitted with a ratchet dog, interlocked with the reverse gear.

The boom construction comprises a base and upper section of tubular

steel lattices, of 19 ft. 3 in. and 22 ft. 8 in. length respectively, followed by two sections of 20 ft. and two of 10 ft. length, thus enabling any boom length between 40 and 100 ft. to be achieved in 10 ft. steps.

Maximum hoisting speeds, with a half full drum are 46 ft/min. in 1st gear, and 93 ft/min. in second gear. Lowering speed is 72 ft/min. with the drum half full.

TRACTOR SHOVEL

Both Four-wheel and Front-wheel Steering

THE turning radius of a new 35 AWS tractor shovel by the Construc- tion Machinery Division of Clark In- ternational Marketing, S.A., Benton Harbour, Mich., USA, is 15 ft. 6 in... less than the machine's overall length. The vehicle features both four-wheel and front-wheel steering.

Horsepower ratings are 66.5 for Continental petrol engine, and 60 and 77 for Ford or General Motors diesel engines. Power shift transmis- sion is fitted, together with torque converter and planetary wheel drive axles. The transmission has four speeds in both forward and reverse. Top speed in either direction is 24 m.p.h.

Top weight for the 35 AWS is 10,100 lb., and 7.550 lb. is the maxi- mum lifting load. The bucket has a 1 cu. yd. capacity and has an over- all width of 6 ft. 11 in. Maximum dumping height is 8 ft. 5 in. with a 50-degree dump angle and a bucket reach of 2 ft. 2 in.

addition to the range of cranes and excavators, the T.35 truck crane has a lifting capa- city of 35 tons. The boom folds in transit and stows over the driver's cab; the top section folds sideways to reduce overhang.

The hook block is stowed on the full-width carrier deck, in which are incorporated outrigger boxes. A

Smith T.35 truck crane mechanical device extends the outrig- ger beams, which are fitted with screw jacks for levelling. Good visibility for the driver is provided by mount- ing the full-width cab forward of the front wheels.

Powered by a

a 150-h.p. Gardner 6LX engine, the crane is mounted on a Foden Low Line 8X4 crane-carrier chassis. The gearbox has twelve for- ward and three reverse speeds, while the final drive is by double worm- drive axles, pivoted rocking beams.
