THE FASTEST LIFTS IN HONG KONG
are in the building to the left - International Building, Connaught Road and its twin, Realty Building. Pictured above is a lithograph drawn in 1902 not long after Elisha Graves Otis intro- duced to the world the concept of modern vertical transportation. A spiral railroad circling the structure was this artist's idea of serving tenants in his city-in-one - building. By contrast, Otis elevators serve the 31 floors of International
and Realty buildings at speeds up to 800 ft. per min.
They are the fastest lifts in the
Colony-in the tallest buildings in the Far East.
