U-model Mack Truck
pression around the door opening so that a knife edge of the door it- self pinches the seal to provide a tight closure.
Front springs of the U series are 54 in. long and 3 in. wide. Pinned at their front end, the springs create a trailing front axle which gives more positive steering control.
The standard electrical system for use with six cylinder engines is a new 12 volt cranking system, with a 55 amp generator.
The makers' export company is Mack Trucks Worldwide, Ltd.. Front Street, Hamilton, Bermuda. Distributors are U.S. Industries Philippines, Inc., Manila.
DUMP TRUCK
Struck Capacity of 56 cu. yd.
A DUMP TRUCK with a struck capacity of 56 cu. yd. and able to carry a load of 85 tons is being manufactured by KW-Dart Truck Co., Division of Pacific Car and Foundry Co., 1301 North Manches- ter Trafficway, Kansas City, USA.
The vehicle is powered by either a Cummins 12-cylinder diesel or a GM 16 cylinder diesel, both giving a fly- wheel horsepower of 650 at 2.100 r.p.m. Allison torque converter transmission may be fitted to give full power shifting through six for- ward speed ranges.
Hydraulic power steering has com- plete mechanical linkage for safety
and an independent oil reservoir and hydraulic pump. The turning circle (outside front tyre) is 69 ft.
The frame is of high-strength alloy steel and the body is made from 100.000 p.s.i. high tensile steel. Side and front plate thickness is in. and the floor plate, fin. The front of the body rests on resilient pads to absorb shock loads.
A dumping angle of 60 degrees is achieved by twin, double acting, two stage inverted hoist cylinders mount- ed inside the frame. Pump capacity is 95 g.p.m. at 1,200 p.s.i.

Other features include: hydraulic brakes; free floating springs with air suspension; two-man cab. 56in. wide: 12-volt electrical sys- tems: and 200 US gallon fuel tank.
Distributor for KW-Dart vehicles is Air Mac Philippines, Inc., Makati, Rizal.
CONCRETE MIXER
Hydraulically Operated Loading Hopper
THE mixing drum of a new con- crete mixer of 5 cu. ft. mixed capacity is spun from heavy-guage mild steel. Produced by Frederick Parker. Ltd., Leicester, UK, the unit, Speedex 5TH, is equipped with a hydraulically operated loading hopper, the control valve for which is positioned next to the tilting handwheel.
The hydraulic pump is in the engine casing and coupled direct to the 4 h.p. Petter diesel engine. The hopper is of welded steel plate, suitably reinforced along the loading lip.
Rotation of the drum is by a guarded driving pinion which engages the gear ring bolted on to the drum. Double-mixing blades give a thorough and uniform mix at high speed.
Tilting control to the mixing drum is by handwheel operating through a steel pinion and the large tilting gear wheel positioned outside the framework. The drum is retained in the mixing and discharging positions by a hand-operated trigger slotting into the machine's tilting gear wheel. Chassis and crossarm are of all- steel welded construction.
The ma- chine is mounted on four steel wheels
and the swivelling forecarriage has a full lock which can be turned right round, enabling the towbar to be parked beneath the mixer.

DANUSER Machine Co., Third Street, Fulton, Missouri, USA, are making a hydraulic motor driven
Danuser earth drill
earth drill with a range of augers for drilling 4 ft. to 6 ft. in depth and from 4 in. to 16 in. in diameter.
Additonal augers up to 30 in. diameter are also available for light work, such as on tree planting.
Having a single point suspension, the unit can be hung from a crane hook, boom (using a suitable torque arm), loader bucket or backhoe. It requires a minimum hydraulic input of 14 g.p.m. at 1,500 p.s.i.
The auger is attached with a shear bolt which will release before the drive unit is damaged.
The makers' export representatives are Oppenheimer Intercontinental Corporation, Mobile, Alabama.
