Structural units were placed by a 45-ton mobile crane members. Weights of the members varied from 1.5 tons to about 14 tons. Total weight of the 498 members was 1,280 tons. Average time for the hoist- ing and installation was 16 minutes per piece.
The first step in the site erection was to install the 30 precast columns, each of which measured 14 metres in length and was designed to take in the whole height of the four-storey block. A total lifting time of 53 hours was employed for this work.
Column and beam supports for the slab flooring
The next step was to locate the 188 beams, ranging from 6 to 8 metres in length. Finally the 280 slab units were installed as floors. Assembly of the members was carried out according the serial numbers and accurate timing of every step avoided any possibility of work delay.
in the concrete
Reinforcement members was jointed by welding and specially designed welding joints were used for connecting the beams with the columns.
Brackets were provided on the columns for use as supports for the beams which were further secured by welding. Small holes were left in the columns for reinforcing wires in the beams to pass through. Wires from two opposite beams were then welded to- gether to form, in effect, a rigid struc- ture. Holes in the columns were later filled with concrete grout.

Construction time for the frame lasted 15 working days at nine hours a day an actual total of 140 hours and 20 minutes. Additional civil and plumbing works for the building were completed in 30 working days.
Use of the prefabricated method produced savings in costs as well as in time. The costs were NT$3,280,000 for the structure and NT$910,000 for other items.
Four-stage programme
China Rebar Structures have drawn up a four-stage programme for popu- larising precast, prestressed buildings in Taiwan. In the second phase the current production rate will be almost doubled.
In the third stage work will begin on the design and production of stan- dardised apartment buildings to house some 3,000 families per year. And in the fourth stage a new lightweight concrete product will be made, suit- able for partition walls.
