BROADCASTING COMPLEX FOR RADIO HONG KONG
SITE
ITE formation is complete and construction work is about to start on Radio Hong Kong's new Broadcasting House a studio and offices complex estimated to cost about HK$6 million.
The buildings, originally planned for a site at Pokfulam on Hong Kong Island, are to be located in Lung Cheung Road, Kowloon. The site, covering about 82,000 sq. ft., over- looks Kai Tak Airport and Kowloon Bay and is within an area south of Lion Rock tunnel in which all the colony's radio and television stations will eventually be contained.
The main block of the complex will have four floors. Its basement or lower ground floor will house record library archives, two rehearsal rooms, workshops for electronic, mechanical, outside broadcast and routine main- tenance, battery room, cable room, tape recovery room, canteen and kit- chen, air-conditioning plant room, transformer and emergency generator rooms, engineering and microphone
stores.
On the ground floor there will be four production studios, each with its own control room, an audience pro- duction studio with a control room

and a narrator's studio, two recording suites each comprising a recording studio and a control room, two Chinese and two English continuity suites each comprising a continuity studic, and a control room, two nar- rator's studios, record and reference library with three listening booths and the librarians' offices, a central control room, engineers' and artists' room as well as a reception and waiting area.
The offices of the Chinese and English programme organisers, pro- ducers, reporters, announcers, a con- ference room and a programme opera- tions area will be located on the first floor.
On the second floor will be the offices of the director and deputy director of broadcasting, secretary and broadcasting engineer of Radio Hong

The main block will have a total floor area of 54,000 sq. ft. spread At its north over the four floors. end will be a large single-storey au- dience production block.
Overall size of the four-storey block is 174 ft. 4 in. by 147 ft. 4 in. by 62 ft. 5 in. high above the lower ground floor and the size of the au- dience production studio is 48 ft. by 62 ft. 6 in. by 26 ft. 3 in. high above ground floor.
The buildings will be erected on strip foundations. They will be re- inforced concrete framed, with rein- forced concrete external walls to the lower and ground floors and curtain
