Sykes TR winch

worm gear reduction unit to power the winch barrel. Thus, while step- lessly variable control and full power at all conditions of load is obtained by the converter, a positive drive and elimination of slipping or overrun is obtained from the worm gear reduc- tion.

Hydraulic controls for both throt- tle and gear shift enable the control panel to be located so that the opera- tor has the load in view during hoist- ing, while allowing the winch unit to be located in the most convenient operating position. The control equipment comprises two Armstrong hydraulic actuators, each of these con- sisting of a closed hydraulic circuit. Agents in Hong Kong are Davie, Boag and Co., Ltd.

TRACTOR SHOVEL

Power Shift Transmission Now Standard

A NEW power shift transmission has been added as standard equipment to the HD-21G, the biggest tractor shovel made by Allis-Chalmers, Mil- waukee, Wis., USA.

A modulated clutch allows the transmission clutch packs to be engaged fully under no torque load conditions. eliminating the usual friction. Located between the engine flywheel and torque converter, the modulated clutch is designed to withstand and absorb tremendous engine torque.

Other features of the improved HD-21G include a 385 max. h.p. engine with a rated h.p. of 298; a working weight of 75,100 lb.; a breakout force of 80,000 lb.; and a maximum crowding power of more than 43 tons. The heavy duty bucket has a 4 cu. yd. capacity.

Allis Chalmers dealers include. Asoke Motors, and Jardine Waugh, Ltd., Bangkok: The Earnshaws Docks and Honolulu Iron Works. Manila: Jardine Engineer- ing Corp., Ltd.. Hong Kong: and Jardine Waugh. Ltd.. Singapore.

POWER SHOVELS

New Michigan Rubber - tyred Machines

A NEW line of seven rubber-tyred power shovels that includes

two articulated models is now available from Clark International Marketing, S.A.. Construction Machinery Divi- sion, Benton Harbor, Michigan, USA. Additionally, Clark's five rear-wheel- steer models are exported from the company's Yorktown Works, Camber- ley, Surrey, UK.

Articulated units manufactured at Benton Harbor are Michigan Models 125 II A and 175 III A. Rear-

Michigan 175 A shovel

wheel-steer machines available from both Benton Harbor and Camberley are Models 55 111, 75 111, 85 111, 175 111 and 275 III.

SAE-rated bucket capacities for rear-wheel-steer models range from 1 cu. yd. for the 55 I to 61⁄2 cu. yd. for the 275 111. Articulated units have 334 cu. yd. to 5 cu. yd. capacities. and turning radius (measured at the bucket's outside corner) is 22 ft. 7 in. for the 125 111 A and 24 ft. 4 in. for the 175 11I A. Load capacities for the line are between 4,500 lb. and 20,000 lb.

Push rods are mounted directly to buckets, eliminating bucket carriers. The result has been an increase in payload capacity with corresponding reduction in machine weight.

Each shovel has power train with a power shift transmission. Engine ratings are 78 h.p. for the smallest

model to 335 h.p. for the largest. All units are diesel powered. Engine options include General Motors. Cummins, Rolls Royce. Perkins, Daf. Volvo and Mercedes-Benz. Top for- ward speeds for the line are between 23 and 28 m.p.h.

Clark agents are: Pacific Engineer- ing Ltd.. Kuala Lumpur: United Ser- vices Corporation. Manila; William Hunt and Co., Ltd., Hong Kong; and Thep Viat. Bangkok. The Far East representative is John E. Hyde. Hong Kong.

FLOODLIGHTING

Tungsten - iodine Lamps for Arenas and Goods Yards

Of the five models in the Wide- Lite range of flood-lighting fittings. three utilise mercury fluorescent lamps. The other two, intended for use in sports arenas and goods yards, or wherever the light source must be located some distance from the area to be illuminated. are fitted with tungsten-iodine lamps.

All the mercury lamp fittings are semi-circular in shape to allow room at the rear of the lamp for a reflector composed of 19 polished aluminium segments that provide 85 per cent re- flectivity and a broad uniform beam. The inside bases and ceilings comprise similar reflectors: integrally-cast fins ensure maximum heat dissipation. The fixings may be either side or top- pole-mounted.

The largest, F1001, measures 28 in. wide, 18 in. high and 12 in. deep, and has a 1,000w. lamp. The medium- sized fitting. F-401, 25 in. wide, 15 in. high and 10 in. deep, has a 400w. lamp; F250, the smallest-only 13 in. wide, 12 in. high and 9 in. deep—a 250w. lamp.

The two tungsten-iodine fittings. also finned, are more compact. The

Wide-Lite model F401

larger measures 18 in. wide, 11 in. high and 6 in. deep and has a 1,500w, lamp; the smaller, with a 500w. lamp. is identical except that it is only 12 in. wide. Both are mounted on angle- brackets.

Courtney. Pope (Electrical) Ltd., Amhurst Park Works, London, N,15, UK, are the makers. Distributors in- clude R. E. Morris Ltd., Singapore, Hong and China Engineers, Ltd.. Kong.
