element terminate in a 10 in. square mild steel plate which, on assembly. was in contact with the adjacent ele- ment. As the frames are accurate in dimensions to 1 16 in.. epoxy resin jointing compound adequately accom- modated any slight distortion in the mild steel plates.
The reinforced concrete edge beams are rectangular in section and the face and soffit of each of these are clad with a separate precast 'L' sec- tion facing unit attached by adjustable cleats. Accuracy of casting was such that the 4 in. joint between these units was achieved with a minimum of adjustment.
The structures are carried on large diameter reinforced concrete bored piles, one under each vertical struc- tural member. For precast columns the pile caps have a socket to receive the base of the column and there are starter bars in the pile caps for in situ columns.
A fine exposed aggregate finish to all sides of the external members was specified. Specially
