OVER the past few years fair-faced concrete has become a popular form of non-finish for institutional buildings in Hong Kong. Its unadorned, textured surface has been used with particular effect in school construction.

Its austere and sculptural form, it seems, makes it appropriate for educa- tional buildings and, now that a few contractors are familiar with the tech- niques of off-form finish, it is an eco- nomical design method that needs no further attention, unless a colourless silicone is applied to preserve cleanli-

ness.

In grant-in-aid school building which must be accomplished within a strictly controlled budget this ecomy of finish is a major consideration.
