Have you managed
to preserve your status as a
"pure"
professional man . . . .
or have you allowed yourself to become a Jack-of-all-trades?

A professional man is one who has attained the required qualifica tions for entry into a specialised field of activity having a defined code of practice and principles.
How many professional men are able to keep themselves "pure" in a place like Hong Kong where the pressures to become a Jack-of-all- trades (with all too often, its un- happy corollary) are amost irresis- tible? Over and over again, the Hong Kong architect is forced to act as interior designer (which he sometimes is) or furniture designer (which he almost never is).
Why should this be so?
Perhaps because the Architect cannot find a fellow-specialist in Hong Kong. Until now, no one organisation has been able to supply the design flair plus the manufac- turing skill which together can produce attractive yet practical results.
If you design without an eye on construction methods you get con- fusion, delay and a soaring budget. (Remember Sydney Opera House?!). But if the designer understands fully the construction facilities available, and works closely with the manu- facturing side, the result is effi- ciency, promptness and economy.
And now Hong Kong has an organisation which encompasses all the related skills and facilities neces- sary to provide a full and satisfac- tory service to the Architect.
