Canal Road flyover
The flyover provides a direct link between Waterfront Road and Happy Valley by eliminating difficult at-grade crossing at Hennessy and Lockhart Roads. It consists of two 22ft. wide carriageways which are carried on two independent structures. Provision has been made for the future extension of the flyover south of Hennessy Road.
The design and the construction of the flyover presented a number of problems brought about by extremely limited space between the building lines, existence of 40ft. wide Bowring- ton Canal along the length of Canal Road and the presence of old pre-war buildings in a very poor state of repair.
A comprehensive survey of the old building was made and the properties were shored, employing a combination of dead, raking and flying shores. It
