INTERNAL TELEPHONE Code numbers can be used to give

Multi-purpose System with Push button Connection

THE traditional dial on internal telephones is replaced by ten digit- coding buttons on the new Triphone system, so that inter-office connection is immediate. The free-standing in- strument allows hands-free conversa- tion at a soft speaking level.

Though soft speaking, the instru- ment is loud enough to permit both speaking and listening at a distance of about three feet. Perfect elec- tronic voice switching is provided in virtually any acoustic conditions.

In cases where a loudspeaking facility is required, a larger extra speaker can be coupled in parallel to cover the area. This has been achieved without affecting the hands- free voice switching.

For confidential conversations, the receiver can be picked up and used as a conventional hand-held instrument. The loudspeaker system is automatic-

Triphone

ally cut-out by a button switch in the base of the instrument.

The unit can also be used to give visual, auditory or pocket paging facilities.

The

Other features include automatic reference of calls to the executive's secretary and undisturbed privacy for the user

by setting down the unit horizontally. When the Triphone is placed in this way with the speaker face down, the speech circuit will not be connected, although calls will be in- dicated by a short tone. In these cases, the caller will hear a continuous tone indicating that the person being called does not want to be disturbed.

In companies using radio-call net- works on fleets of service cars, Tri- phone can be used to place a call from the building to any of the cars.

immediate connection to long-distance links with such buildings as houses, branch factories and isolated administrative blocks.

Cost for systems including more than about fifteen call stations is said to be considerably less than conven- tional systems with the advantage that more stations can be added with little difficulty.

ILLUMINATED CEILINGS Rigid Aluminium Panels Resist Corrosion and Combustion

THREE aluminium-louvre illuminat- ed ceilings, Square-Tex, Texture-Cel and Alumi-Luvr, introduced into the Isora range, consist of rigid light-con- trolling panels that are corrosion-re- sistant and non-combustible.

The castellated Square-Tex pattern is formed from 0.025 in. thick blades arranged in 34 x 34 x 3⁄4 in. cells., giving a lamp shielding of 45 deg.. which is said to be adequate for most lighting applications at normal heights.

A similar shielding is obtained from the 1⁄2 x 1⁄2 in. and 1x1 x 1 in. sizes of Texture-Cel, where the curved edges of the blades produce a con- tinuous wavy pattern. Blade thick- nesses here may be 0.015 or 0.025 in. in the smaller-sized cell, but the latter thickness is standard for the larger opening, and also for the third size of 1⁄2 x 1⁄2 x 3⁄4 in., which gives a 60- deg. shielding suitable for higher in- stallations.

The straight-edged Alumi-Luvr is offered in four sizes: 1⁄2 x 1⁄2 x 1⁄2 in.. with blade thickness of 0.015 or 0.025 in.: and 3⁄44 x 4 x 3⁄4 in., 1 x 1 x 1 in. and 1⁄2 x 1⁄2 x 4 in., with the thicker

blade only. The shielding is 45 deg. for the first three sizes of Alumi-Luvr, but 60 deg. for the last one.

Standard panel sizes are 2 ft. square, 2 ft. by 4 ft. and 4 ft. square. Although normally stove-enamelled in white, the aluminium louvres may be obtained in black

as in the Square-Tex illustrated

or in colours. The panels are suspended from the Isora 620 series aluminium gridwork, and the open construction, together with the absence of materials prone to static electricity, is said to reduce the possibility of collecting dust and dirt.

LIGHTING FITTING

Model Takes Either Tungsten or Mercury - discharge Bulbs

a wellglass light fitting, manufac- tured in two versions for either tungs- ten lamps or mercury-discharge bulbs. has been introduced by Victor Pro- ducts Ltd.. Wallsend, Northumber- land, UK. It is vapour- and weather- proof.

The lamp body, a one-piece alumin- ium-alloy casting, stove-enamelled in grey. incorporates either a single top- entry fixing or a mounting strap and two screw holes for fitting direct to the ceiling. The diffus- ing wellglass is at- tached by a nylon- coated safety wire to the lamp-holder for ease of re- lamping, and fixed to it by stainless-steel screws through a retaining ring and gasket.

Wellglass

The lampglass has a smooth ex- terior, with internal fluting intended to eliminate glare and spread the light more evenly. Designed to accommod- ate tungsten lamps of up to 300 w. maximum and 250 w. mercury-dis- charge lamps, the two versions are identical in outward appearance, be- ing 161⁄2 in. high, with a maximum diameter of 124 in. The tungsten version weighs 21 lb., while the mer- cury-vapour type weighs 33 lb.
