HILLALDAM
SLIDING DOOR GEAR
the beam reinforcement and splice bars for the slab.
To stabilise the structure, imme- diately after the day's slipform con- creting, a slab forming the lift loby was cast in, two floors below the slipformwork to tie the pairs of lift shafts together as one unit.
To help the operator at the jack control maintain horizontal form alignment, water level tubes joined to a common tank showed any devia- tion from level at any jacking yoke during a lift.
Four heavy plumb bobs, one in each shaft indicated horizontal drift. In addition, two theodolites mounted at right angles to each other, taking regular bearings on the rising slip- form ensured verticality.
Checks were made at 2 hour in- tervals. If a check indicated that the form was drifting off line, steps were immediately taken to bring it back. This was done by carrying the jacks higher on the side that was drifting off and keeping them high until the shaft was back on line.
The main contractors for the pro- ject are Loke Hong Kee. Slipform equipment was supplied by Concrete. Silos Pty. Ltd, Sydney.
Rapid progress is now being made on floor construction. This view was taken in June 1967
