A CLIMBING crane suitable for con- veying concrete on dam construction or tall buildings has been built by Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Indus- tries, Ltd., Tokyo, Japan.
Incorporating many safety devices to prevent the mast or climbing rope from slipping, the crane is designed for quick assembly or dismantling and can be easily transported from one job site to another.
The lifting range is 100 metres. Two ropes are employed to prevent twisting.
A speed change system on the lifting motor is remotely controlled from the driver's cabin to give a speed of 80 m/min. for a 2 ton load. 40 m/min. for a 5 ton load and 20 m/min. for a 10 ton load. For the

same loadings, the working radii are 40, 32 and 17 metres respectively.

As a hand ¡ammer, the petrol- driven unit has an impact energy of 303 ft. lb. Depth penetration varies from 10in. to 20in, depending on the soil. The jumping height is ap- proximately 16in.
For demolition work a chisel at- tachment can be fitted. This is said to allow the breaking-up of foundation slabs at the rate of 160 to 320 sq. ft. an hour.

The TF5 is fitted with a single power coil and is supplied with a separate electrical control unit, all wound to operate from a 230 volt, single phase, 50 cycles AC supply. The feeder can be wound for other single phase voltages where required and can also be supplied with a totally enclosed trough for handling dusty or noxious materials.
Weight of the unit is 81 cwt. and its average consumption is 8.5 amps at 230 volt, single phase.

FAST rates of concrete placing are being achieved on large scale build- ing and civil engineering projects by pumping the material through a pipeline from the mixing plant. new pump for this purpose, the PC 50, has achieved an output of 45 cu. yd. an hour on a power station con- tract in England.

The 60 h.p. machine enables con- crete to be available at separate points at the same time. Of compact design, with an overall length of 13 ft, and an overall height of 9ft., the pump weighs 9 tons.
It is fitted with a 3 cu. yd. capacity double re-mix hopper, powered by a separate 74 h.p. gearhead motor and central division provided with plate to enable one half of the pump to be completely isolated from the other.
