TAMPER
A new vibrating plate compactor called the Model T-501 is being mar. keted by Stow Manufacturing Co., 627 Shear Stree, Binghampton, New York.
It has a 17in. x 20 in. plate of heavy guage steel and produces 3350 lb. of impact at a frequency of 4600

times a minute. An oil bath eccentric gives long bearing life and the eccen- tric oil can be changed without dis- assembling the unit.
The tamper is powered by a Briggs and Stratton 5 h.p. or Wisconsin 6 h.p. engine which is isloated from vibration. For easy starting a centri- fugal clutch and recoil starter are fitted.
LORRY ATTACHMENT
An offset hydraulic attachment which can be fitted to any vehicle over three tons and which can operate as a trench digger, compressor and material carrier, has been developed by H. Steiner Excavating & Loading Equip- ment Ltd., Park Hill Road, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, UK.
The machine is controlled by one man. It has an hydraulically offset king post with a retractable foot operating a main boom and dipper arm. Capacity of the pump is 12 to 16

is 20 ft. when it can lift 18 cwt. At a 5 ft. extension the unit will lift 11⁄21⁄2 tons. It can lay pipes or cables at a con- tinuous two miles an hour and bore post holes. Reach is up to 20 ft. on one side to 4 ft. on the other.
The unit is fitted to operate a hy- draulic winch, hydraulic jack hammer, or other boom attachments such as augers, crane hook, back-acting buc- kets and ditching buckets.
POWER PACK
Designed specifically for heavy- duty work, the Arbil hydraulic power pack is said to be capable of operating sufficient jacks to lift a load of 3000 load of 3000 tons through 6in.
It is driven by means of an integral 8 h.p. Norton Villiers 433 c.c. C45 engine and can be used with any stan- dard single-setting jack, although ver- sions are available for double-acting jacking equipment.
The piston-type pumping unit of the power pack develops a maximum pressure of 10,000 p.s.i. with an out- put of 160 cuin. and the oil tank capacity of 17 gal. makes it possible for a number of jacks to be powered simultaneously.

ed however where more jacks are re- quired for the lifting process.
Mounted on skid base plates which enable it to be towed on soft ground, the power pack measures 2 ft. 4 in. high by 2 ft. 5 in. wide by 3 ft. 6 in. long. It weighs 51⁄2 cwt, and can be carried by four men using integral handles which also act as slinging points when necessary.
Raymond R. Bills (Cradley) Ltd., Roetan Trading Estate, Lye, Stour- bridge, Worcs., UK, are the makers.
LOADING SHOVEL
A maximum lifting capacity of 13,100 lb. (5,942 kg.) and a rated bucket capacity of 1-5/8 cu. yd. (1.24 cu. m.) are features of the L61D four- wheel-drive loading shovel.
It has a payload of 5,000 lb. (2,268 kg.) and develops a breakout force of 12,700 lb. (5,761 kg.). At a 53-deg. discharge angle, the maximum dump- ing height is 11 ft. (3.353 m.) and the top load-over height 12 ft. 10 in. (3.912 m.). Maximum forward reach is 7 ft. (2.133 m.), the tip height at this reach being 3 ft. 3% in. (1.010 m.). Raising and lowering times are, respec- tively, 4.5 sec. (laden) and 3.8 sec. (unladen).
Having an operating weight of 20,363 lb. (9,264 kg.), the L61D mea- sures overall 16 ft. 8 in. (5.099 m.) long with bucket lowered and 16 ft. 8 in. (5.080 m.) high with bucket raised to maximum height, height to the top of the cab being 9 ft. 6 in. (2.915 m.).
Powered by a Perkins 6.354 six- cylinder, four-speed diesel engine producing 108 b.h.p. gross, it has full- hydraulic-power 'Orbitrol' steering and servo-assisted hydraulically-operated disc brakes. It travels on 14.00-24 12-ply tyres and achieves a top road
