type, smooth on both sides, and suit- able for internal partitioning.
On-site fixing to virtually any base is simple. It can be screwed through over-size holes to wood battens at 400 mm centres, or fixed by means of a range of aluminium extrusions, with or without mastic sealants, according to application.
Thermal expansion of the material is similar to that of concrete and steel. Drilling is simple, using masonry or high-speed steel bits, and on-site cut- ting can be carried out with a rein- forced carborundum disc saw. The panels are being produced in white, black and pink in standard sizes of 600 mm by 1,80 m, 600 mm by 2,40 m 1,20 m by 2,40 m, 1,20 m by 3 m, an. 1,22 m by 2,44 m.

FIXINGS
Like the original fitting on which it is based, the redesigned Uni-Fix screw anchor enables fixing points to be made in hollow wall or ceiling struc- tures where it would be difficult or impossible to gain access to the reverse side of the material. Modifications to the design have made it easier to fix and considerably more versatile to use.
The latest version of the anchor consists of a metal cylinder slotted along most of its central length to form a series of legs and fitted with a
Uni-Fix screw anchor
matching screw insert. Placing the cylinder in a pre-drilled hole and tightening the screw causes the legs to bend outward and compress back against the rear surface of the wall or ceiling, locking the fixing firmly in position. The screw can then be re- moved and replaced at will.
Differences from the previous an- chor include legs that are more easily expanded, to reduce the effort of fixing, and shorter overall lengths which enable the fitting to be installed in walls with narrower cavities.
A cruciform head is used at the top end of the cylinder rather than the previous circ ular one. This change makes it possible for the small re- designed wrench which comes with the fixings to gain a more secure grip during installation and for the fixings to be installed closer together by inter- locking the tabs of adjacent cross heads. Nipping off one of the tabs on a cross head creates a flush edge along one side which can be used close up to the edge of a wall, and bending up all four tabs on an installed anchor en- ables the user to push it through into the wall cavity when no longer re- quired.

SCREED
Intended primarily for concrete floors, a self-levelling screed eliminates the need for a traditional sand/cement finish. It can be applied to any surface which requires levelling, and the makers claims that, because the op- eration does not need skilled labour, labour time is reduced by 90 per cent.
The product is flow applied to rough concrete, and forms a film up to 1/8 in. (3,1 mm) thick. Tiles may be laid 24 hours later, instead of the three to eight days traditionally allowed for drying time.
When the screed, which is supplied in 10 and 25 kg packs, is mixed with water, it is ready to use. Depending on the degree of roughness, approximate- ly 25 kg of the fairing coat will cover 20 sq. yd. (16,7 sq. m.)
Chemical Building Products Ltd., Cleveland Road, Hemel Hempstead, Herts., UK, produce the material, which is known as Reebolay.
LIGHTING CONTROL
The latest Selcon lighting control, type 250-10, is capable of handling loads up to 10 amp. 250v. a.c. without separate contactors.
There are two main parts to the switch: a plastic base unit with screw terminal connections and a mounting bracket; and a white, translucent- plastic domed housing, 3 in. (82 mm) in diameter at its base by 3 in. (95 mm) high, containing the electronic circuit, photo-conductive cell and switching relay. This housing attaches to the base by a bayonet catch.
Ambient light penetrates the dome to reach the enclosed photocell, and when the light level falls, the relay con- tact closes, turning on the lights. When the light level rises the relay opens to

switch the lights off. A surge arrestor is incorporated in the circuit to prevent damage due to mains-voltage changes or to lightning, and a 60-sec. time delay prevents operation during short-term variations in ambient lighting, as from car headlights or lightning.
