GENERATOR

Self-propelled Mobile Plant Includes Welding Kit

LATEST addition to the Puma range of generating plant is the Puma- truc, a mobile, self-propelled power- supply unit fitted with a 300-amp. transformer welder on one side, a complete kit of welding accessories on the other, and 1.000 W. floodlight above the canopy.

As well as providing a three-phase supply up to 35 kva., and three single- phase supplies at 10 kva. per phase (for lighting, heating and small mo- tors), it will power welding rods up to 14 in. in diameter.

Mounted on a modified version of the Ford Thames truck, with the en- gine sited behind the cab, the generat ing plant runs off the flywheel end of the truck's 592E four-cylinder, water- cooled diesel engine. For travelling, the engine drives the rear wheels of the truck through a transfer box and standard transmission, at normal speeds.

When generating, however, a gov- ernor (locked by a lever control) maintains the speed at the required constant level. A weatherproof en- closure on the back of the truck pro- tects the engine alternator unit and control panel.

EXCAVATOR

Up-and-Over Cab Door Excludes Bad Weather

THE MK, 2 version of the Steelfab 160/180 excavator, although similar in performance to the original model. incorporates several improvements. adding to the comfort of the operator and the efficiency of the machine. Among the most important of these are an up-and-over door at the rear of the cab and a redesigned filtration system.

During wet, cold, or windy wea- ther, the up-and-over cab door seals in the operator's working area com- pletely. Designed to push out of the way and rest under the roof of the unit when not required, it incorpor- ates a thief-proof lock, toughened- glass centre panelling and curved. clear plastic corners which do not re- strict visibility or access.

In the filtration system, individual micronic filters, fitted to each suction. pressure and return line, clean the cir- culating oil before it re-enters the sys- tem, thereby ensuring a continuous supply of clean oil to all points. visual signal indicates to the operator when the pressure line filter should be replaced.

A

Other changes to the 160/180 in-

clude an increase in ground clearance at the rear from 8 to 10 in., and larger stabiliser feet for better sup- port. Side cutters can increase the width of standard 12, 18, 24 and 36 in. digging buckets by 2 in., and a 548

cu. yd. site-stripping bucket is available as an alternative to the standard 34 cu. yd. loader bucket.

Steelfab Ltd.. Pengam Road, Car- diff, UK, are the makers. Agents are Anglo-Thai Motors. Ltd.. Bangkok. and Tractors Malaysia. Ltd.. Singa- pore.

COMPACTOR

21 ton Machine Delivers High Impact

THE Pactor, series 2. model 3-40. segmented wheel compactor is design- ed to give a high compaction per- formance under extreme service con- ditions. All four compaction forces are obtained with machine impact. pressure, vibration, and manipulating or blending of soils.

Rocker-type wheel rakers permit full-depth penetration and blending of sticky, rock-laden soils. without affecting the power of the machine. Flat pads, instead of conventional curved pads, give off "heel" and "toe" vibrations as the wheels turn.

A patented resilient axle and wheel cushioning system absorbs shock and permits operating speeds in excess of 12 m.p.h. forward and reverse. Each pass covers a width of 9 ft. 10 in.

Further details are available from the manufacturers: Pactor Corporation. West Sacramentto, California USA.
