The precast reinforced concrete panels of 4ft. width have vertical joints which are welded and drypacked with cement mortar.
The concrete is generally a design- ed 1:5 mix with a specified 14 day minimum cube strength of 3,750 p.s.i. A plasticizing agent was used in the mix. A tower crane was used in the concreting of the superstructure and the lifting of the precast units into position.
Externally, all precast concrete walls are finished with granite chips of in. diameter. These were applied on to the surfaces while the panels were being cast. The internal surfaces of the panels are lined with in. thick ply- wood sheets with a 2in. air gap acting as an insulation against heat gain.
All other concrete surfaces are left as they appear off-formwork and treat- ed with a clear colourless silicone paint. Much emphasis has been made on the treatment of internal surfaces of the exchange floors to prevent the formation of dust which is detrimental to the delicate equipment.
All internal partitions excepting those on the first floor are semi-per- manent glazed timber units. These partitions are arranged in modules of 4ft. to coincide with the coffered ceil- ing. All external timber surfaces are painted with gloss paint and internal timber surfaces are finished with clear varnish.
The timbers used are Chenghai (Malayan heavy hardwood) for parti-
