Rosario Bridge

The Rosario Bridge, recently open- ed to traffic, is the first long prestress- ed concrete bridge in the Philippines. It is made up of five spans, the cen- tre one being 102 ft. long. The pre- stressed concrete girders were plant- fabricated in segments, transported and post-tensioned on the site. Agvid Construction Co. undertook the erec- tion: fabrication was by Philippine Prestressed Concrete Co., and the de- sign was by the Bureau of Public High- ways of the Philippine Government.

More prestressed concrete bridges are under construction or in the drawing board stage. Among these are the Mandaluyong Bridge being constructed by Constress, the Nagta- han Bridge in Manila and those in Angat, Bulacan.

There has been a trend in recent times towards the wider use of pre- stressed concrete in the construction of wharves and piers. Its big advan- tage over other materials when work- ing in difficult constructions bodies of water is very pronounced. The Dole Pineapple Plantation in Cotabato and the Esso Standard Fer- tilizer & Chemical Co. in Limay, Bataan were among the first to utilise prestressed concrete for their wharves and piers.

Production of prestressed concrete structural units in the Philippines is

being undertaken by Philippine Pre- stressed Concrete Co., Inc. (Philstress) located at Marikina. Rizal, D. M. Consunji, Inc. (Constress) at Caninta, Rizal. Ruco Prestressed Concrete, Inc., also at Marikina, and Durabuilt Structures at Quezon City. The latest company in the field is the Ermita Prestressed Co., Inc., whose new plant is located at the South Super High- way in Paranaque, Rizal.

Prestressed concrete has created a new age in construction in the Philip- pines as it has in many countries. More economic and more efficient uses of the material are resulting from each new experience. The outlook is very encouraging and the indications are that in the future prestressed con- crete will develop into a dominant material for construction in the Philip- pines.

MASTIC ALUMINIUM

FERRAMASTIC

BEADFIX is a perfect mastic for beaded metal frames, infill panels and wooden frames, priming paint is not necessary for adhesion, and no paint- ing is necessary on the finished job. Glass curtain walls fixed with BEADFIX remain both windproof and watertight under extremes of temperature.

"FERRAMASTIC" metal casement putty is an oil- based material which thickens in its set and never goes completely hard. It reacts to temperature changes to the same degree as the glass and metal frames, expanding and contracting with the varia- tion in climatic conditions, and is thus the perfect material for glazing metal frames.
