USA. Two men are said to be able to cover a mile a day on seismic an- alyses for use in making profiles on roads or pipeline routes.

The apparatus is battery operated. It receives and times the arrival of shock waves, initiated by an impact hammer blow at timed intervals and at known distances. By interpretation of the data recorded by an operator stationed at a console and application of simple formulas, the type of ma- and terial in each layer, its depth thickness can be shown.

Accurate to depths of over 75 ft., the apparatus is also of value for foundation design.

Type 2 is sold in two sizes 33in. and 36in. long. A version of the pro- duct, Duraflex Flip-Flop, is also made for internal doors. The makers state that they would welcome distri- butors for their products in the Far East.

WOOD RESTORER

Process Makes Good Insect Damage

TIMBER that has been weakened by death watch beatle and woodworm can be restored to its original strength by a new process evolved by Copoly- mer Products, Ltd., Townsend Lodge, Kingswinford, Staffs., UK.

The company claim that provided the wood is still holding together it can be effectively treated. It is un- necessary to remove beams to carry out the process.

A new type of resin is injected into the wood, filling all the holes and cracks. When the resin has set the wood is said to be as strong as if it were new. It is also poisonous to death watch beatle and woodworm. First used in the development of very hard tile surfaces for resisting abra- sion and acid attack, the resin con- tains chemicals that resist the spread of fire.

slats, held together by terylene thread interwoven at lin. intervals.

It is housed on a roller inside a metal case above the window. Rais- ing and lowering is done from inside the building by means of a terylene strap on a spring-loaded roller. The strap passes through a 3/8 in. dia- meter hole in the wall to the awning base bar.

When lowering, the spring roller is unlocked and the weight of the base This also bar pulls out the awning. brings out two stayed arms which re- gulate the angle of the awning.

A storm-lock to prevent flapping and wear is fitted. The awning is dropped until sliding stays reach a certain point on the side arms, while further pulling tautens the awning against wind movement.

To release the lock the awning is dropped to its fullest extent and then pulled back to the required position. When the awning is rolled up, the base bar fits against a lip on the case to form a weatherproof seal.

Two types of casing are made: for bolting to existing window frames, and for permanent installation during building.

PIPE ALIGNER

Use on Pipes from 16-55 in. Diameter

ΟΙ

A DEVICE for laying and aligning concrete pipes known as the Coaxer comprises a self centring alignment

Coaxer pipe aligner

fixture, which is adjustable to suit the pipe diameter, and a steel anchorage frame incorporating a hand winch positioned at the beginning of the

run.

The alignment fixture has three locating arms, each terminating in a guide wheel. This is placed inside the first pipe section and expanded by radial toggle linkage and screw action until clamped in position with three guide wheels protruding ready to re- ceive the new pipe.

A steel wire rope connected to the winch at the head of the line is passed through the new pipe, which is then drawn up over the guide wheels until locked securely on to the previous enable the joint to be

section to made.

The alignment fixture is then re- leased by a key having a suitably ex- tended shaft, and brought forward for the next length. The equipment can be used on all concrete pipes from 16in. to 55in. diameter.
