WORK PLATFORM
Self-propelled Staging
is Hydraulically Operated
FOR overhead maintenance work, Ballymore Co., West Chester, Penn.. USA, have produced a hydraulic plat- form that provides horizontal as well as vertical movement.
Power for both vertical and hori- zontal movement is supplied by a hy-
Platform rises to a height of 13 ft. draulic system driven by a rotary air motor and controlled from the plat- form. Electric 115v a-c or d-c power and battery power are available.
The platform, which can lift and carry 800 lb., has a horizontal speed of 3 ft. per second, fully loaded. Pro- pelling power is transmitted through a hydraulically-powered drive wheel which moves the work platform along tracks and can also act as a brake. The platform rolls on V-grooved, semi-steel wheels.
Of double scissors design, the plat- form rises to its full height of 13 ft. in 90 seconds and lowers to a com- pact height of 3 ft. in 60 seconds.
Ballymore's distributor in Thailand is United Auto Test and Service Equipment (1960) Co., Bangkok. Ex- ports to other countries are direct from West Chester.

anticipate demand and direct eleva- tors where they will be needed, in advance of being called.
The first computer-controlled eleva- tors in Hong Kong will be in the two 31-storey blocks being built on the Connaught Road waterfront.
Otis manager, Mr. William Mallet, said that the system could be used in large or small buildings to give a more frequent service using the minimum number of cars. He ex- plained that a series of sensing elements continuously transmitted data on elevator performance and traffic to a supervisory computer. The computer processed the data to control each elevator in step with anticipated workloads,
The system adjusts elevator service without lag even to wide variations in demand and makes the fullest use of each elevator's potential capacity.

RILITE polyester/glass fibre sheeting. a translucent roofing material, is now available as a rolled corrugated sheet in sizes up to 10ft. wide and 100 ft. long.
Such long runs mean that in factory construction up to 1,000 sq.
Rilite translucent sheeting
ft. of roof can be covered without any lap joints. The material may also be used for vertical screens or fencing.
A fine tooth saw or abrasive cut- ting wheel is used to cut the sheet. Fixing is by galvanised bolts or drive screws with p.v.c. or diamond gal- vanised washers.
