DERRICK CRANE

A derrick crane, the Mini Derrick Mark III, produced by Caswell Cranes & Erection Ltd., Winnal, Winchester, UK, can be made fully operational on site in only two hours. It is suitable for many applications, including the dis- mantling of tower cranes from high- rise buildings.

Since no section is over 7ft. 9in. long, and since pin-jointing is used throughout, the derrick is easy to handle both during transport and on site. The winches, which may be driven by hand, electric or diesel motor, can be located remote from the crane as dictated by the conditions of the site.

Sills and leg centres can be varied by adding or removing inserts and odd leg lengths to accommodate ground irregularities can be used. The crane. can be rigged to suit a particular job and is especially useful for work in a

tons.

TYRED ROLLER

The Orthopactor P-3 rubber-tyred roller which a French company has produced has an original hydraulic sus- pension incorporating three jacks at

Tewin Road, Welwyn Garden City, Herts., UK. Maximum forward reach at 7ft. discharge height is 10ft. 8in.

Standard payload is 6000 lb. Power is from a six-cylinder diesel engine de- veloping about 100 kW. The automatic transmission provides four forward and four reverse gears, maximum speed being 25 m.ph. in either direc- tion.

Four-wheel drive and servo-assist- ed, hydraulically operated disc brakes to all wheels are standard. The rear- wheel steering is hydraulically assisted.

Power for the hydraulic systems is provided by a 49 gallon/minute hy-

confined space. High-lift blocks permit work to be performed down to about 400 ft. below crane level with rope twisting. Jib length may be varied from 45 ft. to 75 ft.

Loads up to 5 tons can be lifted with a short jib, and loads up to 2%

the front and two at the rear. The load is distributed uniformly on each of the wheels.

With an unladen weight of 12 tons, it can be ballasted to 22 tons with standard ballast, sand or ungraded pro- ducts. Steering is through individual pivotting of the wheels, which move vertically. Lateral stability is provided by a wide based support triangle.

The machine is powered by a 100 100 h.p. diesel engine and features a torque converter, servo-operated reverse mechanism and four-speed gearbox. It is suitable for rolling natural materials or bituminous bases.
