Consequently, if the noise is attenuated sufficiently to bring its high frequency components below the appropriate N.C. curve, to prevent annoyance, its low frequency content will be too quiet to provide masking (see Figs. 7a and 7b).

In this, 'N.C. shaped' noise is supplied to the room, either elec- tronically or by means of noisy ven- tilator grilles, so that masking is pro- vided without annoyance. Such ‘acous- tic perfume' is a rather unsatisfactory measure, but seems to represent the only solution currently available.
The acoustic problem in land- scaped offices is by far the most in- tractable; in fact there must be some doubt as to whether it will ever be capable of fully satisfactory solution.
