LOADER
Single Lever Power Shift Transmission Control
ALLIS-CHALMERS have introduced a new articulated Model 745 wheel loader with a single lever, steering column mounted, power shift trans- mission control. With four speeds forward and two reverse, the twin turbine transmission shifts automa- tically from first to second flow range and from third to fourth (high range).
Top speeds are 2.4 m.p.h. in first, 5.3 in second, 9.2 in third and 20 in fourth, and 3.4 and 7.3 in reverse.
The engine has a 240 max. h.p. at 2,200 r.p.m. and 185 flywheel h.p. Equipped with a 4 cu, yd. bucket and 23.5 x 25-12 ply rating tyres the 745 has a tipping load of 26,500 lb. without counterweight. Due to its 90 degree swing, it has a turning radius of only 17ft. 8in., yet combines a 7ft. track with a 10ft. 10in. wheelbase.
A modulating shift in the transmis- sion allows the operator to shift smoothly from forward to reverse with a minimum of braking and in- creases drive train life by lessening the shock loads. The brakes are dual system air-over-hydraulic type. Treadle type foot pedals are connect- ed for operation with either foot.
Breakout force is 41,500 lb. with a 4 cu. yd. bucket, 46,300 lb. with a 31⁄2 cu. yd. bucket. Overall length is 24 ft. 2 in., while overall width is 9 it. 11⁄2 in.
The makers are Allis-Chalmers, PO Box 512, Milwaukee, Wis., USA. Agents include: Jardine Engineering Corp. Ltd., Hong Kong; Honiron Philippines Inc., Manila: South East Asia Tractors Ltd.. Singapore.
