VIBRATOR

Lightweight Unit Powered by ah.p. Motor

PRODUCTION of a new lightweight one-man vibrator with a flexible shaft has been started by Stow Manufac- turing Co., 627 Shear Street, Bing- hampton, New York. USA.

This new model 71E has a 4 h.p. universal motor mounted on

a skid base that also acts as a handle and protector for the motor. The flexible shaft is made of 5/16 in. diameter high-speed assembled-type core which rotates inside a flexible casing.

The casing is lined with spring steel, reinforced with wire braid and covered with an oil-resistant. prene-impregnated fabric and a rub- ber jacket. Flexible shafts are avail- able in lengths of 2 ft. to 10 ft.

There are four different vibrator heads. Two are 7/8 in. and 14 in. x 10 in. long round heads. The other two are the same size but have four fins around the outside to give almost double the vibration efficiency. These heads have an eccentric weight.

valve enables a variation in weight of blow from a tap to the full 10.000 ft. lb. blow. This delicate control allows the machine to be safely used on tamping over underground instal- lations such as transit pipes and utilities and services. The length of the tamping tool required is govern- ed by the depth of trench to be com- pacted.

The leads of the hammer can be tilted 9 degrees to the left or right for keying backfill into the original sides of the trench.

A variety of quick change attach- ments and tools convert the unit into a frost breaker. site driver (for motor way guards rails) or a probe punch- ing machine.

The 2.500 lb. capacity, hydraulic- ally operated side boom attachment for pipelaying may be used in con- junction with an automatic creeper gear to achieve accurate jointing.

ROAD ROLLER

Attachment Compacts Motorway Marginal Strips

FOR Compacting motorway mar- ginal strips, a special road roller at- tachment has been developed by Avel- ing-Barford. Ltd.. Grantham, Lincs.. UK.

It comprises a 20 in. diameter by 12 in. wide roll mounted to the near- side end of a three-wheeled roller

hydraulic scarifier beam, through a hinged bracket that is set at an angle so that when not in use the strip can be swung back and locked to the beam well clear of the ground to en- able scarifying operations to be un- dertaken.

In the working position, the inside edge of the strip roller lies 9 in. out- side the outer edge of the rear wheel of the road roller. The strip roller is equipped with scrapers and with water sprinkler pipe fed from, but in- dependent of, the machine's standard sprinkler system.

The attachment is controlled from the operator's platform through the scarifier hydraulic system, into which a safety valve has been inserted to ensure that the ground pressure of the strip roller never exceeds the re- quired specification. The strip roller can be released and repositioned at any instant.

Provided also is an adjustable fin- ger tracer fitted to the roller fore- carriage that assists the driver to

RIPPER

Unit Adapts as Pivot or Parallelogram

THE advantages of both the pivot and parallelogram type rippers are combined in a new attachment for Allis-Chalmers tractors, the 21R. This uses a three point adjustment on the mounting frame and the linkage position can be quickly changed to create a pivot type ripper, a modified parallelogram or a full parallelogram ripper.

Thus the operator can adjust the tool to meet varying soil conditions.

Three straight shanks, each with a curved face tooth 15 in. long, are fitted. Each shank has three depth adjustments, 7in. apart, with a maxi-
