NEW
PUMPS
High Pressure Units for Cleaning Work
TWO Aydee high-pressure pumps have been designed to serve various cleaning purposes, such as washing down buildings and plant, or clean- ing sewers. Made by Auto Diesels, Ltd., Braby House, Smithfield Street, London, E.C.1, they operate at a maximum of 425 p.s.i.
The pumps are fitted with a spray- gun or special nozzle for inserting into drains.
Model HP4 can be driven by either a 3.5 h.p. air-cooled petrol engine or a 5 h.p. electric motor. Twin opposed diaphragms pump 9-10 g.p.m. of water through four valves controlled by a compression cylinder. The driving shaft revolves at 720 r.p.m. through a reduction gear from the prime mover.
The T pump is similar in operation to the HP4 but uses only one dia-
Electrically driven Aydee HP4 phragm to develop 425 p.s.i. at 3 g.p.m. It is powered by a 2.5 h.p. petrol engine or by a 2 h.p. electric
motor.

MATERIALS HANDLING Skips Automatically Loaded on to Vehicle
SAVINGS in cost over traditional methods of collection and disposal of waste and other materials are claimed for the new Load Lugger materials handling system introduced by Telehoist Ltd., Manor Road, Cheltenham, U.K.
The system comprises a specially adapted vehicle with a hydraulically operated loading boom and open or closed skips. Skips are from 14 cu.

yd. up to 16 cu. yd. capacity and store up to 11 tons of material at collection points.
Each skip is automatically loaded on to the vehicle and after transpor- ting to a disposal site, is tipped while still on the vehicle. The driver has complete control of loading, unload- ing and tipping operations from the cab.
The system replaces the use of many vehicles by one vehicle and a number of skips. A vehicle and driver can handle as many skips as the frequency of collection permits.
The basic vehicle chassis, up to 22 tion gross weight, is equipped with a flat bed chassis platform and а hydraulically operated loading boom, pivoted at the rear of the chassis platform. Jackleg stabilizers automa- tically provide support during loading and unloading and a pivoted hook engages the skip to enable it to be discharged while still on the vehicle.

VIBRATORY ROLLER
Exerted Ground Pressure of 6,000 p.s.i.
MEASURABLE COM-
paction to beyond depths of 20 ft. is said to be produc- ed by a new vibrat- ing roller, the LW 15-V, introduced by Le Tourneau- Westinghouse Co., 2301 NE Adams Street, Peoria, Ill., USA.
A two-drum rol- ler weighing 20,000 lb., it is mated to
Far East Architect & Builder August, 1965
a C Tournapull prime mover which generates the electric power to operate the roller's two electric motors one for each drum.
The motors drive a V-belt, which in turn brings the shaft up to a speed of 1,600 r.p.m., producing 1,600 vibra- tions a minute. The makers claim that the exterted ground pressure is 5,000 to 6,000 p.s.i., the machine compacting at three-to-one fewer passes than required by static sheeps- foot rollers.
Vibrations are developed by two 20 lb. balls per drum, one to each ball race. Each ball floats in a re- tainer ring. The rings are fastened to the shaft with a retainer spring and a retainer housing. As the balls come to 12 o'clock, they lift the drum from the ground. At 6 o'clock, they drive the drum down with a 10-ton impact.
