World Bank (International Bank for Reconstruction and Development) agreed to arrange a loan. Immediately the engineers were instructed to pro- ceed with the project and construction commenced in 1966. The work was virtually completed during 1969, with the exception of the installation of an electronic control system which will be completed this year.
As a result of these works, double cropping of rice began during the dry season of 1970 and this year irrigation of a greatly extended area will be pos sible. Torrential rains at the beginning of December and January have filled all the reservoirs.
