The site is 1,150 ft. above sea level and com- mands a panoramic view of Hong Kong harbour. There will 18 townhouses in Altadena House, and amenities will include a children's playground and a circular outdoor swimming pool which will be heated during the cooler months.

Designed with the utmost luxury in mind, each townhouse unit will be more than 4,000 sq.ft. in area consisting of two levels, with four bedrooms on the upper floor. Features will include an enclosed formal entrance foyer, a separate and enclosed dining room, a floor-to-floor clearance of 14 ft. for the living and dining rooms, walk-in closets, pack- age air conditioning system, bay windows for each of the four bedrooms, a bar or playroom and a terrace off the living room. There will parking space for 50 cars.

Aluminium companies in joint venture

A new joint venture company has been formed by the Hong Kong Chiap Hua Manufactory Co. (1947) Ltd. and Comalco Ltd. of Australia.

The new company, Chiap Hua Comalco Ltd., will embark on a HK$6 million expansion and im- provement programme, which will start with the installation of permanent colour anodising and an automatic paint laquer line.

in Petman Ltd. which takes a large share of the Hong Kong market for aluminium building pro- ducts. Two other companies will become asso- ciated with the new venture: United Aluminium Suppliers Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary which distributes extrusions in Hong Kong, and Union Metal Co., a metal manufacturing complex in Bang- kok which is about to begin producing extrusions.

Building plans approved

The Hong Kong Building Authority approved 53 new building plans of all types in February 1971, and certified 36 completed buildings for oc- cupation. Of the plans approved, 21 were on the Island, 12 in Kowloon, seven in New Kowloon and 13 in the New Territories. Buildings certified for occupation included four for domestic use, 13 for non-domestic use and 19 combined domestic and non-domestic premises.

Building development director retiring

Hong Kong's director of building development, Mr. P.V. Shawe is to retire soon after nearly 23 years in Government service.

Mr. Shawe joined the Hong Kong Government in December 1948 as a building surveyor. He be- came assistant chief building surveyor in April 1957, chief building surveyor in 1960, Government building surveyor in 1964, and finally director of building development in May 1969.
