HYDRAULIC slewing through 180 deg., allied to hydraulic tipping, faci- litates accurate concrete placing with the four-wheel-drive, 2-ton dumper, Model 4WD. Both operations are controlled from the steering column.
The dumper, which measures ft. 4 in. by 5 ft. 9 in. by 5 ft. 6 in. high overall, is powered by a Petter PH2, twin-cylinder air-cooled diesel, developing 15 b.h.p. at 1,800 r.p.m. Fitted with two 7.50-20 8-ply tyres at the front, and two 6.00-16 4-ply tyres at the rear, it has three forward speeds with a maximum of 12 m.p.h., and one reverse.

The skip is of steel, all-welded con- struction, 3/16 in. thick in the cen- tre with in. side panels and splash- guards. It has a struck capacity of 39 cu. ft., a heaped capacity of 45 cu. ft., and a water capacity of 30 cu. ft.; its loading height is 4 ft. 8 in. and its discharge height, 2 ft. 8 in.
The controls on the steering col- umn enable the driver to operate the tipping and 180 deg. slewing without leaving his seat. The skip is mechanic- ally locked in the central position for travelling, and is released by a pedal, the slewing ring embodying positive stops at either end of its travel.
When slewed to the required point of discharge, the skip is hydraulically locked for safe placing. The slewing mechanism is protected from dirt and splashing, whether the skip be level or tipped.

WITH a weight of less than 3 lb for the complete outfit, the Thames light- weight cutting and welding set has
many applications in heating and ven- tilating engineering.
It has a lever type cutter which will cut steel cleanly from 1/32 in. to 2 in., while the welding torch is provid- ed with seven nozzles to weld up to 5/16 in. plate with full penetration.
Features of the set are the rapid interchangeability of the welding and cutting heads on a common shaft, and the use of a special injector which is claimed to give a substantial saving in oxygen over conventional welding/ cutting outfits.
