Positioning one of the 64 ft. beams
QUEEN'S ROAD E. FLYOVER
N only one night, construction workers operating under arc lights positioned the complete 113 ft. cen- tral span of a flyover across one of Hong Kong's busiest throughfares.
The operation involved the removal of overhead tram wires running under
Kanok Drive and the flyover spanning Queen's Road East
the flyover, the placing of fourteen 64ft. beams, each weighing 14 tons, and replacing the wires for trams and traffic to flow again early the follow- ing morning.
The flyover, spanning Queen's Road East, will be the second to be completed under the Hong Kong Government's ambitious Garden Road Complex scheme. The first.
Harcourt Road flyover (Far East Architect & Builder, June 1966) was completed last year. These and other structures yet to be started will allow а new road to be taken from the busy waterfront area up to the mid- level and Peak areas of Hong Kong.
