The waterfront road which will run from Harcourt Road to Fleming Road and will form the main connection between the tunnel and the central district, has been up- graded in the Public Works Department programme.

The road must be completed in time for the sche- duled opening of the tunnel in January 1970.

START ON POWER STATION

Construction work is expected to begin in four months' time on the HK$25 million Government low-cost housing scheme at Yau Tong Bay, Kowloon, Hong Kong. formation is already in progress.

The scheme calls for the building of three seven- storey, and eight 12-storey buildings with a total of 26,700 units, providing accommodation for about 170,000 peo- ple. Each 35 sq. ft. unit will contain toilet facilities, a private balcony and cooking facilities.

Provision is also being made for three 24-classroom estate schools to be incorporated in the scheme.

DAM APPROVED

THE Thai Cabinet has approved the construction of a 21,779,700 baht dam on the Chao Phya River at Singburi Province, to prevent annual flooding.

Some four million baht has been allotted from the budget and the remainder of the cost is expected to come from the budgets for the next two years.

The Songsin Construction Co. has been awarded the contract to build the dam in 900 days. It will also cons- truct the approach roads and lay a drainage system.
