Homing Society will be the first Fellow of the new body in the colony.

Thirteen expatriate housing managers and 14 local Chinese men and women working for the Housing Authority and holding qualifications in housing management will be the founder members of the Hong Kong branch.

The first examination for the new institute's Diploma of Housing Management will be held next month for people with two years practical experience in the field.

CONTRACTORS REGISTERED

Fivi new construction firms have been included in the contractors' register kept by the Hong Kong Building Authority.

The Public Works Department has now compiled lists of suppliers and specialist contractors for certain building materials and equipment.

Any such firms that do not already receive invita- tions to tender and wish to be considered for inclusion in these lists for the purpose of carrying out government contracts are invited to apply to the PWD stating the types of work they carry out as suppliers or specialist contractors, or both.

All firms included in the lists will receive private invitations to tender for any government work falling in their category.

HONOLULU STUDY TOUR

MR. Edward Hoh Seng Kong, production manager of Correct Mix Concrete, Ltd., Kuala Lumpur, is now on a two-month tour of Honolulu studying the technical and practical aspects of concrete production and use.

The study course, supervised by Alfred A. Yee and Associates, Honolulu, deals with the production of ready-mix concrete, prestressed and precast concrete, and methods of handling and placing.

On his return from Honolulu Mr. Hoh will visit Manila, Tokyo and Hong Kong to look at applications of concrete technology.

SCHOOL FOR SURVEYORS

HONG KONG is to start a special six-month school to train an extra 40 to 50 assistant land surveyors each year.

This move is an effort to cope with the large number of major government development projects scheduled for the next few years. The first six-month class of about 20 will start next month.

Proposed assistants will be recruited in groups of 20 to 25 and given a concentrated six-month course in basic land surveying. They will then be posted to field sections for further experience. New recruits will be taken every six months.

PRESIDENT INDUCTED

BENJAMIN L. Aromin was inducted as president of the League of Philippine Architects at the League's recent annual convention in Manila.

ARCHITECT SUSPENDED

AUTHORISED Hong Kong architect, Mr. Chan Win-on has been removed from the Architects' Register for six months from March 19, by order of the H.K. Disciplin- ary Board.

The Board found Mr. Chan guilty of:

negligence in permitting material divergences or deviations from work shown in approved plans.

negligence or misconduct in falsely certifying that certain work had been completed in accordance with the approved plans and was structurally safe.

negligence or misconduct in failing to give the required periodical supervision to the carrying out of certain building works.

LOAN FOR HOTEL

A Loan of 7 million baht has been made by The Indus- trial Finance Corporation of Thailand to Ma Bulkul Company for the construction of a new hotel at Suriwong Road, Bangkok.

The building will be six storeys high and will contain 216 air-conditioned rooms.

To meet the needs of a growing tourist trade the company has received promotional priveleges from the government. It has a registered capital of 15 million baht. The loan is repayable over six years.

PLANS APPROVED

ONE hundred and four plans for new buildings of all types in Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories were approved by the HK Building Authority in February as compared with 128 plans approved in January and 140 in February, 1964.

During the same month under review, a total of 66 completed buildings was certified for occupation. Of these 17 were tenement buildings, nine were buildings for non-domestic purposes while 40 were for combined domestic or non-domestic purposes.

The new HK$34 million Kwong Wah Hospital overlooking Waterloo Road, Kowloon. The 1560-bad hospital was opened recently after a recenstruation and tight months.
