Other increases in staff are required because of general expansion.
The additional posts and normal increments have increased the provision for Personal Emolu- ments to the figure of $42,533,700 which is some $5.2 millions more than the amount approved for 1960/61.
The net increase under Other Charges Annually Recurrent is $536,100. This reflects the continuing expansion of educational facilities and is mainly accounted for by increased provisions for Evening Classes, Allowances & Bonuses to Teachers in Training, Scholarships and Bursaries for Chinese Post- Secondary Schools, Commonwealth Scholarships & Fellowships, Examinations and administrative expenses arising from these increases.
The increase in Special Expenditure is mainly due to necessary replacement of furniture and equipment. This item was previously provided for under "Stores & Equipment", but is now included under "Equipment and furniture for Government Schools”.
