This Department was created in May 1954 to take over the functions of the Resettlement Division of the Urban Services Department and duties connected with squatter clearance and screening formerly undertaken by the Public Works Department and Social Welfare Office. Of the 630 posts in the permanent and temporary establishment, 307 were transferred from the Resettlement Division, 121 from the Public Works Department and 26 from the Social Welfare Office. 61 additional posts were approved during the year. The remaining 115 posts comprise the following:-

Head Office. A Storekeeper Class II is required to take general charge of stores under the direction of the Accountant, thus relieving accounting staff of storekeeping duties. 3 extra Clerks are also required on account of the increasing volume of work in the Department.

Resettlement Administration Section. 2 Storekeepers are needed to take charge of the Resettlement Stores at To Kwa Wan and Sookunpoo which issue stores to fifteen Resettlement areas. 8 Clerks are required for the increased work involved in issuing demand notes, screen- ing, rent records, administration of the multi-storey blocks, squatter control reports, etc. A Woman Confidential Assistant is needed in order to assist the Resettlement Officer in charge of
