for six years were reopened. Prices for raw silk and cocoons stood at about $1,300 and $60 per quintal respectively. Profit is yet hardly to be expected, though undoubtedly conditions for this industry have much improved. The Soochow Kashing Railway was completed and formally opened to traffic in July. A highway, was built from Pingwang (4), an intermediate station on the Soochow Kashing highway, to Huchow(), whence it is now possible to proceed direct to Hangehow.
