The breach which occurred in the Yellow River in 1935 at Tungchwang was successfully repaired, the river resuming its usual course and the flood waters in the surrounding large area being gradually drained away. The National Economic Council and the National Resources Commission intensified their efforts in the direc- tion of the achievement of economic self-sufficiency. Ending the first complete Transpacific crossing by the Pan-American Twentieth Country Clipper ships, the Philippine Clipper landed at Macao on the 23rd October, proceeding on the same afternoon to Hong Kong. On the following day, arrangements having been completed for the call at Hong Kong of the machines of the China National Aviation Corpora- tion, one of the Corporation's machines carried the incoming passengers on to Shang- hai. This linking-up of Hong Kong by the China National Aviation Corporation enables a through flight to be mado from China either to America by the Pan-American Airways or to Europe by Imperial Airways.
