ANTUNG

she could still compete with Dairen. These took the form of a drastic reduc- tion of about 40 per cent. on the already low freight rates on cargo destined to the interior of Manchuria, and while these low freight rates continue the prosperity of Antung as a port is assured. A new electric light company was formed in the spring, and its plant, which is big enough to supply the Chinese city, not including factories using motor power, is nearing completion. The company will no doubt adversely affect the present monopoly of the South Manchurian Electric Company, which has already been forced to reduce prices. The value of the trade of the port in 1930 was H.K. Tls. 91,931,563 as com- pared with Hk. Tls. 91,313,054 in 1929, Hk. Tls. 97,320,548 in 1928, Hk. Tls. 105,530,916 in 1927, Hk. Tls. 93,156,811 in 1926 and Hk. Tls. 85,252,694 in 1925.
