CEBU

This is the capital of the island of Cebu, and ranks next to Iloilo among the ports of the rnuippines. it was at one time the seat of the administration of revenue for the whole or the Disayas, but this was removed to sfanila in 1849. Cebu is a well-built town and possesses fine roads, but the people are devoid of commercial enterprise. The trade of Cepu consists principally of hemp and sugar. The neighbouring islands of Leyte, Mindanao, and Camiguin possess extensive hemp plantations, a large proportion of the produce or whien nnds its way to Cebu for shipment. There are some very valuable and extensive coal deposits in the island of Cebu, but the mines have not as yet been worked with any enterprise.
