of the port in 1896 was Tls. 2,760,185, in 1895 Tls. 2,385,173, and in 1894 Tls. 3,101,219. A large export trade in pigs, poultry, eggs, and provisions is carried on with Hongkong. A steam plant for the preparation of albumen for the European market was established by a French firm in 1896.
A harbour light and one at Lamko (western entrance of the Hainan Straits) were opened in 1894; and one at Cape Cami in 1895.

LUNGCHOW
This city is situated at the junction of the Sung-chi and Kao-ping rivers in lat. 22 deg. 21 min. N., and long. 106 deg. 45 min. E., near the south-western border of the province of Kwangsi, and was selected as the seat of the frontier trade of that province with Tonkin. The continuation of the two above rivers is known as Tso-chiang, or left branch of the West River, and it enters the main stream some 30 miles above Nan-ning.
