SEMARANG
Semarang is situated in 110° 25′ E. longitude and 6° 59′ S. latitude. The population is 72,244, of whom 3,845 are Europeans. The old city is small, withn.arrow streets and lanes. On the west side of the river are the residence of the Regent, the Mosque, the Hospital, the Court of Justice, and different Government offices.
The railway from Semarang to Djokjokarta is extended to the new harbour canal so that travellers arriving in the roadstead can continue the journey to the interior without delay at Semarang. The roads of Semarang do not afford the same accom- modation as the harbour of Tandjong Priok, but the view of the city and surroundings is very fine.
