Dear Mayle,

I enclose a com of the letter about Americans going to Hong Kongwhich terndale Bennett anded to Allison of the United States embassy on Friday evening..

Allison noted that United States citizens wishing to go to hong kong should apply to the Chief Civil Affairs Officer there for permission to enter, and he asked whether such applications should be sent through the American Consulate in Hong Kong or whether, for instance in the case of an Aerican in New York, he should apply through the British Consulate General there. Sterndale Bennett said he would let him have an answer as soon as possible.

I should be grateful if you would let me know how we should reply to Allison on this point.

I am sending a copy of this to Sailes, C.A.4.
