Reconnaissance of the colony reveals no new prospect of airfield development on the island but suitable site available in now territory near Ping Shan, Map reference GSGS1393 Grid number 2, 035718 providing scope

for single or double runway project 3,000 yards long by 50 yards wide, bearing 23 degs, east to north. Grid reference contro point 016099. site embraced in valley running north/ south and runway direction generally favourable for all seasonal winds, Site includes paddyland but excellent watorial available adjacent to site to complete construction to V, H.B. standard without difficulty,

British air route policy in Far East not known here so that intensity of use and consequent airfield capacity difficult to assess but, having regard to economy and minimum disturbance

to civil community, strongly recommend single runway with adequato tax track and parking arca,

3. Comprises 200 acros, of which 170 paddyland and 6 small villages to be removed. Technical site can be located clear of agricultural ground. Estimated time to complete paved A.W. runway and essential servicos 20 weeks, assuming necessary requisitioning completed forthwith.

Airfield construction units and equipment in SHIELD convoy now ashore. In order to forestall any likely reduction of these personnel in relation to the relcase and repatriation, intend initiating project forthwith, o.g. requisitioning ground and preliminary drainage work. Meanwhile roquest your approval to complete project on those linos.

5. Pending decision on now airfield Kaitak is being used to capacity but is only sufficient for following :-
