Further to my 040740 recommending immediate development of new airstrip at Ping Shan site was visited yesterday by myself accompanied by Air Chief Marshal Sir Keith Park. The latter endorses our opinion regarding suitability for future trunk route requirements and has advised Air Ministry accordingly. Site will also fulfil future requirements of operational aircraft in relation to defence problems here.

2. Preliminary work and full survey has been completed which clearly indicates that site is suitable from flying and engineering point of view. Froposed project contemplates development to VHB standard limited to following dimensions 3,000 yards long by 200 feet wido with necessary taxi-ing track and parking space. Site will also

include facilities for R. A.F. and civil flying and if necessary dicombarked naval air units.

3. Steps are being taken to prepare local villagers who naturally dislike losing their land and for whom it will be necessary to provido alfernetivo hoitage.

4.

Quarrying of granite for construction of airfield has started. Request Vory rupest very early decision as to whether coustraction of earîtold should be proceeded with as otherwise work will be delayed and airfield construction unit will not ropotition not be fully employed,
