China Vegetable Oil Corporation can probably supply 1000 tons tea-seed oil which I understand, is suitable for Hong Kong, within a few months provided we can provide transport and 5,500 steel drums.
require two motor boats or steam launches of 50 to 100 tons hauling capacity, one to be not over three feet in draught for use up to Wuchow. These will have to be chartered by China Vegetable Oil Corporation or special arrangement made with Chinese authorities for inland navigation,
2. They quote tentative price of Chinese national 30,000 per pičul of 50 kilogrammes including duty and miscellaneous expenses as far as Wuchow only. They are reluctant to quote sterling price as they will need currency. I can however see no possibility of providing the necessary currency until the Chinese Government settle the rate of exchange.
3. China Vegetable Oil Corporation will enquire in Tsingtao about ground-nuts and in Shanghai for lard and bean-oil but fear there will be no surpluses.
