In connexion with recruitment of urgently needed staff for Hong Kong Colonial Office have certain candidates in Chungking and would appreciate your help in arranging appointments and journey to destinations.
Appointments are subject to (a) security vetting, (b) physical fitness. Colonial Office would be grateful if you would, after having satisfied yourself that there is no objection on security grounds, offer temporary employment in the capacity and with salary as indicated against their names, and arrange medical examination. If candidates accept and are fit they would require to be vaccinated if this has not been done within the last two years and given T.A. B. inoculation. When these formalities complied with passage by quickest route will be required to destination cost of which will fall upon War Office funds.

Appointment in all cases on a temporary basis for period of one year, terminable at any time by three months' notice in writing or on payment of one month's salary in lieu. From date of leaving Chungking and during the period of Military Administration it would be necessary for them to be seconded for service under the War Office as civilians and in due course receive from that Department separate communication setting out special conditions of employment under Military Administration. Then Military Administration ceases to function they would revert to employment of civil administration and whole of service would be regarded as having been under civil administration. Since pay during period of service under War Office will be from funds of that Department, persons named should give authority, in duplicate, for payment of any allotment to dependents which should be sent to Colonial Office for transmission to Office.
