Dear Empson.

Thank you for your letter of the 9th September about relaying London broadcasts in Chinese from Singapore and Hong Kong.

We have read what you say with interest, and are sending a copy of the relevant part of your letter to other government departments who are more directly concerned.

The problems arising from the divided loyalties of Anglo-Chinese are of course highly complex; but as Kuoyti comes progressively to be adopted as the. language of all persons of Chinese race, it would seem prima facie desirable that we should swim with the tide and use it as a medium for broadcasting to overseas Chinese.

Yours very sincerely,

(M) J. C. STEPHPALE DINNETT

(J.C.Sterndale Bennett)

P.3. It is very nice of you to suggest a meal with your wife and yourself. I should like it very much though I fear I must ask for a postponement for the present as I have scarcely any time just now that I can call my own! I am sorry to have missed Charles.

W. Empson, Esq.,

160A Haverstock Hill,

N.W.3.
