In reply to your Tetter of the oth September, about the re atriation as a matter of urgency of key men liberated in Hong Kong and Helaya, I am directed by the Secretary of State for the Colonies to inform you that the repatriation of all people from these teritories is regarded as a matter of urgency and will be effected as quickly as possible, Te regrets that it is not possible to arrange for certain individuals to be repatriated more quickly than others except in cases where there are strong compassionate grounds and even in those cases no guarantee can be given that it will be possible to bring the people concerned home more quickly.

With regard to the destination to which liberated internces will be revatriated I am to ex lain that the policy is that all liberated eople should be brought back to this country unless they have permanent hones in other territories. Apart from this, every effort

will be made to reunite families where for instance a wife is living in Australia and has been unable
