There will be two men from Ford Malaya in this unit, and thus they will be on the ground at the earliest possible moment to look after our interests, as in the course of time, the Unit will disintegrate and rehabilitation proper will commence. The advantages, if the plan works out as we see it, are obvious.
The thought has occurred that you may have designed some arrangements for dealing with Manila, which you would like to duplicate in Hong Kong.
The writer will pass on anything you have to say on these subjects to the Colonial Office, but you may wish to deal with them direct, which, we understand, would have to be done through some British Government Officials in the States, pre-
sumably, the Embassy.
We will keep in touch with the Hong Kong Planning Unit Department at the Colonial Office pending the receipt of your reply, but, naturally, will make absolutely no commitals of any nature.
