use of a portion of the Embassy
provided it is understood that he will
relinquish it immediately if requested
to do so by the Foreign Office, and that
he will be responsible for the
safeguarding
maintenance of official and private
and other effects,
furniture,

in touch with MacDermot, the Foreign
Office representative attached to the
British Pacific Fleet in Yokohama, and
